'The Elder Scrolls 6' Is Officially Not Coming To PlayStation 5

When Microsoft purchased Bethesda and all of its IPs a few hundred years ago, PlayStation fans were left with one, very important question: how would this affect them?

As a result of this historic acquisition, a number of gigantic franchises that were previously multiplatform now fall squarely under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella. That includes DOOM, Fallout, Wolfenstein, and of course, The Elder Scrolls.

Fans have been on tenterhooks for the last year or so waiting to hear whether or not the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls VI would find a home on PlayStation 5. It doesn’t help that Bethesda and Microsoft have given some pretty vague answers, often contradicting one another at various points.

Now, at last, we have what looks to be definitive confirmation. Unfortunately, it is as most of us long suspected: The Elder Scrolls VI will be exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC, meaning it is not coming to PlayStation 5.

This is according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer himself, who revealed the news in a lengthy interview with GQ. He makes it clear that this isn’t about “punishing” PlayStation users, but stresses that it just wouldn’t make sense not to use a game as big as The Elder Scrolls VI to Microsoft’s advantage. Given Bethesda set the company back around $7.5 billion, you can't really fault the dude for wanting to get his money’s worth.

“It’s not about punishing any other platform, like I fundamentally believe all of the platforms can continue to grow,” Spencer said. “But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about The Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.”

Fortunately, Microsoft has a habit of releasing all its exclusives on PC day one alongside Xbox, so PC players have no need to worry. I should also point out that The Elder Scrolls VI will absolutely be available to stream via Xbox Game Pass whenever it does finally launch. That means those of you who hitched your wagon to PlayStation this generation can still enjoy the game via your mobile device or computer… provided your internet is good enough, obviously. If not, you might want to consider saving up for an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S if you can.
