The Flash director says working with Ezra Miller was 'one of my best experiences'

The upcoming DC film The Flash is set to sprint onto screens in June, promising to change the DC universe like never before. Featuring characters both new and old, it’s shaping up to be a pretty spectacular flick.

But the road The Flash took to get here hasn’t been an easy one. The film has faced its fair share of difficulties, losing directors and being delayed several times. However, one of the biggest obstacles to the film’s success came from Flash himself, or more specifically, actor Ezra Miller.

Ezra Miller was involved in controversy last year, being arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, and was also reported to have assaulted fans. This sparked enormous amounts of backlash, with fans calling for the cancellation of the film or a recast, even threatening to boycott the release entirely. Miller has since apologised for their behaviour and stated that they’re now getting treatment for mental health.

Despite this, The Flash’s director Andrés Muschietti took the time to praise Miller for their work in the film, stating in a recent press Q&A: "It was probably one of my best experiences working with an actor, ever." He continued, "They're brilliant. [Their] contributions are constant, and also they like to do more takes than I do, which is a lot."

Miller will actually be playing two versions of Barry Allen - the original Barry and one that exists in a different timeline. The story will follow similar beats to the popular Flash storyline Flashpoint, which sees the speedster run back in time to prevent his mother’s death, fracturing the DC universe in the process.

Flash won’t be alone on his quest to fix the timeline as he’ll be joined by Michael Keaton’s Batman, who’ll be making his first appearance as the character since Batman Returns in 1992. Supergirl will also be making her debut, played by Sashe Calle.

Rumours suggest that additional cameos of popular characters will also be featured in the film, but none are confirmed as of yet.

The Flash releases in cinemas on 16 June.
