The Last Of Us Part 3 is already being inspired by the HBO show

Episode two of The Last of Us has introduced fans to a brand new concept that makes the infected even more terrifying, and it sounds like it could be included in a future game.

The decision to remove Cordyceps spores from The Last of Us’ TV adaptation has proven to be pretty divisive, although the reasoning the showrunners gave for it makes a lot of sense. As well as adding more realism, replacing the spores with tendrils has added a whole new layer of creepiness to the infected that’s going to haunt my nightmares - one particular scene at the end of the most recent episode has been grossing out viewers everywhere (you already know what it is).

This episode, we also discovered that the infected are all connected via a network of Cordyceps fungus - Tess explained that stepping on the fungus can alert infected to where humans are (which led to that awful scene at the end). The thought of so easily being able to trigger a horde of infected to come running straight at you is horrifying, and as Dexerto reports, The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann has expressed that he thinks it’d be amazing in the games. We're in danger.

Speaking on HBO’s official TLoU podcast, Druckmann said: “That would make for good gameplay. That’s one of those I wish we had in the game.”

At the time of writing, it’s not actually been confirmed if The Last of Us Part III is happening, but it’s probably only a matter of time when you consider how successful the games and TV show have been. Assuming that it happens, it sounds like we’re going to have to watch our step in-game, anyway.
