'The Last Of Us' Remake Is Coming This Year, Says Insider

So, this summer will mark two years since The Last of Us Part II released, which is precisely the kind of information that makes me believe we’ve been stuck in some weird time bubble since the pandemic began. Anyway, everyone knows that the modern day gamer is restless, and so two years without a new game from a popular series is positively disastrous. One could even say that The Last of Us is a dead franchise. Fear not, because apparently, that could be about to change.

According to industry insider Tom Henderson, a remake of The Last of Us is very much on its way, and it's happening soon. He posted to Twitter on 5 January: “Heard from multiple people now that the TLOU remake is nearly finished and could release during the latter half of 2022.”

Apparently, that’s not the only thing in the works, either. The insider claims that the delayed Part II multiplayer project, as well as a director’s cut version of Part II, are also on their way, but it’s not currently known when: “Them all releasing together could be a good compromise if GOW got delayed to Q1 2023 - But that's just speculation on my end for the moment.” he added.

This is far from the first time that there’s been talk of a remake of The Last of Us floating around in the rumour mill - back in May last year, a different insider, Game Reactor's Eirik Hyldbakk Furu, claimed that Naughty Dog would be pulling out all the stops for it: “This won't be a 'simple' improvement of resolution, framerate and textures,” they said. “The kennel is going to really take advantage of PlayStation 5's power and features with the The Last of Us: Part II engine.”

Of course, the original game first released back in 2013, with its remastered version shortly following the year after that, so all things considered, it’s really not that old. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see what a remake will actually bring to the table, so we'll have to stay tuned.
