Oh lawd, it’s happening. First announced back in 2019, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has had fans intrigued for a while now, mainly because we still don’t really know a massive deal about it.
The game is being developed by Daedalic Entertainment, who are known for a number of point-and-click adventure games, including State of Mind and Deponia. That said, Gollum is no point-and-click - it’s actually a story-driven action-adventure with stealth elements, which sounds super interesting.

“After losing his precious ring to Bilbo Baggins, Gollum decides to leave the Misty Mountains and embark on a perilous journey that leads him from the dungeons of Barad-dûr to the realm of the Wood-elves in Mirkwood,” a press release reads. “In order to survive the dangers of his journey through Middle-earth, Gollum has to sneak and climb and use all his cunning. He also has to deal with his Hobbit-self - Sméagol. It’s up to the players if they want Gollum to have the upper hand when it comes to making important decisions, or if they prefer to allow Sméagol to take over. Gollum also encounters well-known characters from the books as well as a few new faces.”

Anyway, fans will be pleased to know that today, the release date for Gollum has been officially announced - it’ll be making its way onto PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on 1 September this year, which is surprisingly soon, actually. If you’re a die-hard Nintendo Switch fan, fear not, because it’s coming your way, too - the current word on that is that it’s “planned for later this year”.
Exciting, right? Unfortunately, there’s no new trailer for us to feast our eyes on, but given that the game is little over three months away, it’s probably not going to be too long until we’re shown some more of it - we’ll just have to watch this space.
