It won’t come as a surprise to anybody that the release of Battlefield 2042 went down like a lead balloon. Its focus on always online multiplayer and lack of campaign left FPS gamers super unimpressed, and it has since struggled to maintain its player count.
In fact, the player count for BF2042 recently dipped lower than 1000 concurrent players, which is, I’m sure you’re aware, very not cool. There’s also talk that the game is going free to play to try and encourage people to give it a chance.

With this in mind, it’s little wonder that publisher EA would be looking to shake up the failed formula in the game’s next iteration, and it seems that might come in the form of adding a single-player campaign back into the mix.

A new job listing calling for a design director able to bring a “masterfully designed single-player campaign” to EA’s new Battlefield Seattle Studio has gone up, and naturally it’s piqued a lot of interest. Now, EA have not officially confirmed the game will have a single-player campaign, but as we can deduce by this ad, there’s more than likely going to be one.
The studio itself, as reported by Metro, is where a lot of veteran devs from the likes of Bungie and Monolith Productions who made Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Although it seems like Battlefield Seattle Studio are going to be involved with the new Battlefield game (clue’s in the name) this doesn’t mean that previous developer DICE have been left out in the cold. Indeed, it hints towards EA’s determination to make the franchise work. Both Battlefield and Call of Duty have hit turbulent patches with their most recent releases, so they’ll no doubt want to course correct as quickly as possible.
