The Oracle From The Matrix Franchise, Mary Alice, Has Passed Away Aged 85

Mary Alice has passed away at the age of 85, as confirmed by the NYPD.

The Matrix Revolutions actress Mary Alice has died at the age of 85, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Alice was found in her Manhattan apartment on Wednesday 27 July. She is believed to have died from natural causes. The talented actress will be remembered by fans for portraying The Oracle, both in The Matrix Revolutions and the video game Enter The Matrix. Alice took over the role after Gloria Foster, who portrayed The Oracle in the first two Matrix movies, passed away in 2001.

In the film, it was explained that The Oracle’s outer shell had been destroyed by the criminal programme, Merovingian.

Once a Chicago school teacher, Alice went on to carve out a stellar acting career. She garnered back-to-back Emmy nominations in 1992 and 1993 for her portrayal of Marguerite Peck in NBC’s legal drama I’ll Fly Away. The actress also starred in 90s gem Awakenings, opposite Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, and To Sleep With Anger.

Mary Alice also had a wonderful stage career and was in fact inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 2000. Alice won a Tony for best featured actress after portraying Rose in August Wilson’s Fences in 1987. Fences was later turned into an Oscar-award winning film in 2016, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.

Alice retired from acting in 2005. She starred in an episode of crime drama Kojak as her final project. GAMINGbible extends its condolences to Alice's family, friends, and colleagues.
