It’s barely been two weeks since The Sims 5 was announced. Well, it’s not exactly The Sims 5 - the game is currently codenamed Project Rene, but look at it. It’s a new Sims game. It’s the fifth one. We all know what we’re talking about here.
It was reported by prominent industry insider Tom Henderson (via Insider Gaming) that playtests would be taking place starting from last week. Reportedly, those lucky enough got access to the build mode, and might also be able to trial the multiplayer in the future. As such, despite the game being “very early” in development, it seemed that a build of it was already out there.

Anyway, it seems that this build may have fallen into the wrong hands. Again, via Insider Gaming, Tom Henderson now reports that hackers have now been able to gain access, then crack and pirate the game. Reportedly, they managed to generate access tokens which allow users to play without first being approved by EA.

Henderson reports that the hack was “real easy”, due to the game allegedly being unencrypted and on Unreal Engine. It’s not currently been confirmed if the hackers plan on making the game public.
Chances are, it’s going to be some time before the full game actually releases. Following the reveal of the game, the devs said: “This is just a first glimpse of what the team is working on, and we will continue to share more information on the game’s development and milestones along the way.” They didn’t imply it’d be done anytime soon, anyway, but perhaps it could be coming sooner than we thought. Aside from the supposed hack, Henderson claims that, according to a source, “everyone loves it in the playtest Discord”, so that’s certainly promising.
