The Witcher 3's Battle of Kaer Morhen is one of the game's best quests, fans agree

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has been out in the world for quite some time now, which means that the developers over at CD Projekt RED will have shifted their focus over to The Witcher 4.

It’s still a long, long way off though. We don’t even know the game's title. It’s commonly being referred to by fans as The Witcher 4 but devs have explained that it’ll kickstart a brand new Witcher trilogy. This means that Geralt isn’t guaranteed to be our protagonist. That being said, I’d be shocked if the game didn’t share major links and callbacks to the previous trilogy. Fans are itching for an update. In the meantime, one has created a mock-up of the game in Unreal Engine 5 while elsewhere, fans are reminiscing about the best quest in 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Many fans are in agreement that The Battle of Kaer Morhen is the greatest quest with Reddit user Byzantine_Merchant kickstarting the conversation. They wrote, “Probably one of my favorite sequences in gaming. I recruited every possible ally. Fought the Wild Hunt and won a Pyrrhic victory. On one hand, they didn’t get Ciri. On the other hand, they killed Vesemir. It felt like an actual siege and struggle the whole way through. But what I love most is the range of emotions that come after. Yes, you beat the Wild Hunt but they lost nothing they weren’t willing to lose.”

They continued, “Now you’re attending Vesemir’s funeral. Which carries its own weight and range of emotions after the quest with Lambert. It’s clear that it’s over for Kaer Morhen. At least for now. The castle is in disrepair and the person that tied the Witchers together is dead. The allies you assembled can’t stay and Eskel and Lambert won’t stay. It’s sad, but in its own way, it’s not. It’s a new chapter for everyone and a new set of opportunities.” Ah, sweet memories. It’s like reliving playing the game for the first time all over again.

User PaulSimonBarCarloson added, “It's one of my favourite quests in the entire game. Seeing all the people you helped, fighting together to save Ciri was really cool. And yes Vesemir's death was really sad,” while Lapwing68 said, “Aye, it's a rollercoaster ride of emotions, and it wasn't any easier on the third playthrough.” I quite agree, although The Bloody Baron questline has to come in at a close second.
