The Witcher 3's next-gen first-person mode is kind of amazing

One does not simply sink approximately 50 hours into The Witcher 3. One simply slams playthrough after playthrough, choosing the same outcomes over and over, until they stumble upon this brilliant first-person mod for the RPG. And then everything changes.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to cast a spell over players, both fresh-faced recruits and weathered monster slayers. Only the other day was the community piling praise on the Blood and Wine DLC with the force of a JCB JS160. Indeed, our editor Ewan thought the fact that the game's new-gen upgrades were free of charge was practically criminal.

Even for those who have combed every centimetre of the Continent, there is always another thing to discover. This mod, from crthdr on Nexus Mods, puts a new spin on the RPG adding a first-person perspective that doesn't lead me to snatch the nearest empty vessel for my vomit. Take a look:

"I use this mod and walking through the swamps, [cruising] the Novigrad streets or creeping through a dark forest all feels amazing and looks incredible. To this day there is nothing else like it," complimented a player. It's reminding some a little of Skyrim, and admittedly, the combat is occasionally like Geralt chugged a caffeine tonic, but crthdr has done a very admirable job making it as smooth as possible.

Perhaps this might become an actual feature in the next Witcher title. That's not landing in our open arms until 2025 at the earliest, yet, developer CD Projekt Red has insinuated that it is experimenting with new technologies in Project Polaris.
