The Witcher season three on Netflix scores just 2.6 from fans on Metacritic

It can be hard to say goodbye to those we love with aches in our hearts that will never fade away.

One such pain is for the Man of Steel, aka Geralt of Rivia: Henry Cavill. The Witcher Netflix series is one of the most popular on the streaming platform and in its third season, fans are gearing up to say goodbye to the beloved actor.

For months on end, there has been speculation as to why Henry Cavill is hanging up Zireal with Liam Hemsworth, brother of Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Hemsworth filling the shoes of Geralt in the upcoming season four and beyond.

However, before Liam Hemsworth arrives in season four of The Witcher, we have season three to get through. Despite being one of the most popular shows on Netflix, The Witcher has received somewhat of a mixed reception since it launched in 2019.

Before we proceed, you’ll be pleased to know that I will be keeping this article spoiler free, so please rest easy and read on.

On Metacritic, season one has a respectable user score of 7.5, but the critic score is much lower at 54. Whereas season two has a critic score of 69 (nice), and just 3.9 from the users. Sadly it seems that season three isn't doing too much better either.

Season three of The Witcher is available now, and following the lead of Stranger Things season four, the latest adventures of Geralt of Rivia and co will be split into two parts. Volume one consists of five episodes and is available now, while volume two arrives on 27 July 2023 and has three episodes.

That being said, how is volume one doing so far? Well, not so good. At the time of writing, on Metacritic, the first part of The Witcher season three has been scored 70 by critics and just 2.6 by users.

At this moment, season three has a total of 83 Negative reviews, compared to 22 Positive from users. “Lol I love the spoiler alert option THERE are NO SPOILERS WRITERS SUCK, Gerald is represented perfectly but the story SUCKS,” said an angry EgOr82. “Geralt is good, but everything else sucks. Stop Netflix, stop with your **** please,” said Kharoe. “So far, I can't imagine how they can save the series with the remaining episodes,” exclaimed Deadlyicecream1.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the remaining episodes in what will be Henry Cavill’s last hurrah as Geralt of Rivia. One thing is for sure, both Netflix and Liam Hemsworth will have their work cut out, not only with season four but also with season five. I suppose at least Hemsworth has been researching by reading the Andrzej Sapkowski novels.
