'The Witcher' Season 3 Teaser Confirms New Plot Details And Returning Characters

Season three of Netflix's The Witcher is officially underway. The streaming giant confirmed the news with a new teaser image showing Henry Cavill (Geralt), Freya Allen (Ciri) and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) together again.

Netflix has also shared the official plot synopsis for season three, teasing more magic and mayhem ahead for our trio. I would probably advise against reading on if you haven't finished last year's second season, by the way.

Before we move on to more spoilery territory, can I interest you in a quick rundown of why Ciri needs her own game?

The summary for the upcoming third season teases: "As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. "Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever."

The synopsis confirms what many were hoping: that season three will have a lot more of the central trio together after season two established fascinating new dynamics - and the eventual arrival of the dreaded Wild Hunt.

Earlier this year, The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich said she was especially excited to share season three with viewers as it adapts her favourite book in the original series.

"I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favourite book in the saga, which is The Time of Contempt," Hissrich said. “I feel like seasons one and two have been laying the playing field for everything huge that’s about to happen."

It's not yet known when The Witcher season three will release on Netflix, but with production really kicking into gear we can probably expect it around 2023.
