A new theory has suggested a way that the Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V universes could be connected.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is very well known for its secrets. Almost four years after its release, players continue to find all sorts of cool details hidden away in its massive open world, from spooky unnamed graves, to heartbreaking optional interactions in the epilogue

Now, as reported by Screen Rant, one YouTuber thinks that they might have uncovered yet another secret within RDR2… for another game entirely. Wait, what? That’s right, Strange Man has laid out a new theory which connects Red Dead Redemption 2 to Rockstar’s golden child, GTA V, and it actually makes sense.

Before you have your mind blown, take a look at some of our favourite wins and fails from Red Dead Redemption 2 below.

Just to bring you up to speed, fans have been theorising that there could be a connection between the two games for some time now - mainly via GTA V’s ‘The Truth’ side mission series, which explores the Epsilon Program (a religious cult which believes in alternate timelines and multiple realities), and RDR2’s ‘Geology for Beginners’ mission, which introduces us to a man called Francis Sinclair, who appears to be a time traveller. Throughout that latter mission, the player finds a number of rock carvings which appear to show futuristic events, hence, fans believing some funny business could be afoot.

Strange Man’s new theory suggests that Francis Sinclair is actually the son of Carpa Tom - one of the members of GTA V’s Epsilon Program. In RDR2’s ‘Geology for Beginners’, Francis’ mother explains that his father, named Tom, recently died, and if you compare Francis and Tom side by side, you can see that they’re dressed very similarly (with Tom’s outfit being noticeably different to that of the other Epsilon Program members). So, it’s being theorised that both Francis and his father could be time travellers, and Tom had vanished out of RDR2 and into Los Santos. There’s more detail to the theory in Strange Man’s video, which you can check out below.

Is it a bit of a stretch? Maybe. While the two games might both be creations from Rockstar, they’re wildly different, and at the end of the day, Tom is a very common name, so it doesn’t necessarily confirm that the two characters are connected. It’s a super interesting idea, though, and it makes you wonder if things could be tied together in GTA VI.
