Tony Hawk Badly Injured In Accident, But Determined To Skate Again

The Birdman believes he will ride again

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has expressed concern about his future on the board after revealing he snapped his leg in a nasty skating accident.

Despite stating that he's completely determined to ride again, he has acknowledged that the extent of his injury could prove a real impediment to getting back to what he does best.

The 53-year-old Hawk shared photos of his injury to social media, but vowed that he won't stop skating until he's completely and totally unable to continue.

"Yesterday sucked," Hawk wrote. "I broke my elbow 20 years ago and managed to make a full comeback; this recovery for a broken femur will be much harder because of its severity (and my age). But I’m up for the challenge."

"I’ve said many times that I won’t stop skating until I am physically unable. A broken leg - with plenty of hardware - will probably be the biggest test of that creed. I’ll be back… maybe not at full capacity but I resigned to that notion years ago as I approached 'mid-life'."

Whether or not Hawk will be able to get back on a board remains to be seen. A broken femur, especially at 53, isn't an easy thing to come all the way back from.

With that said, I wouldn't want to bet against the Birdman - I believe that he will ride again. Maybe just don't bank on him ever doing a 900 again.
