Christopher Nolan to direct two James Bond movies, says insider

It’s all relatively quiet in the world of Bond. Due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes, production on most Hollywood projects has ground to a halt. That includes the James Bond franchise.

Daniel Craig retired from the role back in 2021 with the release of No Time To Die. Presumably, before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were enacted, Bond producers were hard at work beginning their casting search for the next 007. It’s not currently possible for that search to continue, but we do know a couple of names that have been thrown in the hat. Idris Elba is a major frontrunner in terms of fan choice, although the actor himself doesn’t seem overly keen on the idea. It’s also assumed that Aaron Taylor Johnson has been in talks with producers. While we may not know who will be portraying Bond next, one insider claims to know who will be stepping in to direct the next franchise instalments.

As reported by film insider World of Reel (via Dexerto), Christopher Nolan could direct the next two Bond instalments. According to the insider, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is keen to get Nolan on board, adding that she began talking to Nolan about the possibility before the WGA strike and Oppenheimer press tour kicked off.

The insider added that Nolan wants creative freedom over both the film’s direction and writing, which is causing some tension with Broccoli. These discussions will have ground to a halt though as while the director’s guild is not on strike, Nolan would not currently be permitted to discuss any potential writing projects. World of Reel wrote that Broccoli “rarely gives carte blanche to her filmmakers, [as] there’s usually a blueprint in how to make a Bond film.” Then again, the prospect of a film written and directed by Nolan is not to be sniffed at.

Nolan is, of course, responsible for a string of hits including Oppenheimer, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight, Tenet, and Inception. A fresh lease of life could be just what the franchise needs. For now, take these rumours with a pinch of salt.
