Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation officially announced from Mr Robot producers

Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation officially announced from Mr Robot producers

A Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation is officially on the way from the producers of Mr Robot.

Who would’ve thought back when Cyberpunk 2077 was released back in 2020 that in 2023 the franchise would be flexing its success?

Night City is well and truly thriving - and it’s easy to see why so many players are calling it their favourite video game location. Between Update 2.0 and the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally living up to its true potential - completing its redemption arc, you might say. Just today, CD Projekt RED took to Twitter to announce that the game has sold a whopping 25 million copies, while Phantom Liberty has sold 3 million copies in the space of just one week. That’s not all that’s been announced though. We may already have the animated Edgerunners, but a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation is also on the way. Huge news.

Take a look at Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in action below.

In a press release, CD Projekt RED revealed that they’ve teamed up with global media company Anonymous Content to develop a live-action project set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. We’re not quite sure whether it’s a TV series or film just yet, but either way, this is news that will most certainly be welcomed by fans.

Anonymous Content are known for their work on the Emmy award-winning series True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as the Oscar winning films Spotlight and The Revenant. Needless to say, the Cyberpunk 2077 project is in safe hands. Specifically, CD Projekt RED will work closely with head of television Garret Kemble, director of development Ryan Schwartz, and chief creative officer David Levine - so it’s sounding more like a TV series than a film. Levine previously oversaw drama output at HBO including work on True Detective, Westworld and Game of Thrones.

The project is in the early development stage. With the writer’s strike now over, a screenwriter is being sought out. It’s said that CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 team will be closely involved in the creative process. Could we have another The Last of Us sized success on our hands in the future? We hope so.
