A John Wick anime is in development

Everyone’s new favourite fictional hitman will star in an anime adaptation, and we’re not just delighted, we’re ecstatic.

The John Wick franchise has, mostly, been a tour de force in terms of reception, reviews, and adoring fans. Although many viewers agree that the third film, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, is less riveting than the other Wick outings, the franchise returned to form in John Wick 4. Back with scores to settle, and a desire to have a normal life, John Wick 4 reviews all hailed it as “one of the greatest action movies” in existence.

But its ending, which we won’t spoil for anyone yet to watch it, left the question of more films up in the air. There is talk that both Keanu Reeves and the director, Chad Stahelski, are interested in returning, though only after they’ve given John Wick “a rest”. Despite Reeves voicing that a break is needed, that isn’t stopping the John Wick train from speeding along.

We’ve had The Continental, which, by most accounts, didn’t capture the audience’s imagination like the films that inspired it. Nevertheless, that isn’t stopping Stahelski from embarking on another cinematic project under the Wick banner, as well as the anime we’re all so psyched about.

When asked about the proposed anime, Stahelski said, “So we’re really looking forward to that; we’re really excited about it because we’re doing that [another cinematic instalment] and a Japanese anime because I love Japanese anime so much.”

The reason for the two different projects is due to the director wanting to have action while also world-building, something which can be difficult to do when inexperienced hands are on the reins. Despite not minding The Continental, it was a show that Stahelski and his team had little involvement in, saying, “Look, I love the [The Continental] slow-burn too, but after six episodes, I would like something to happen in my TV shows, you know?”

Oh, we couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately, that’s where any details about the anime and any other projects end. However, we now have a glimmer of hope, and an image of John Wick looking even more badass as he moves with grace only anime can provide.
