MCU Blade will be R-rated, director confirms

MCU Blade will be R-rated, director confirms

The director of Marvel's upcoming Blade movie has confirmed the film will be another R-rated MCU project.

The director of Marvel's upcoming Blade movie has confirmed the film will be another R-rated MCU project.

Recently the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a bit more accepting of adult-themed content, with Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 containing some pretty distressing scenes for a PG-13 film, some of which caused controversy amongst parents taking their kids.

The latest MCU project taking viewers by storm is Loki Season 2, check it out below.

It’s been confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be R-rated similar to the previous two films, with the directors saying Deadpool’s new home with Disney won’t take away from the profanity and gore the character is best known for.

Additionally, Marvel confirmed some of its upcoming Disney+ TV shows will fall under a new R-rated banner, like Echo and hopefully Daredevil: Born Again.

Now, the latest project to have a confirmed R-rating is none other than the MCU’s take on the badass vampire-slayer Blade, who’ll be played by Mahershala Ali.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the project so far, as it's been enduring what can only be described as production hell. The script has been written, torn up, and rewritten several times, with Kevin Feige himself reportedly showing frustration with its progress.

Even Ali threatened to leave the project following all the delays, as well as a draft of the script that reportedly had Blade in the fourth lead role in their own film.

Luckily there is some good news, as the director Yann Demange has confirmed that the push to make the film R-rated has been successful.

It only makes sense too, as Blade is best known for slicing up and gunning down some of the worst supernatural threats to plague the Marvel universe, so to have him in a PG-13 role just wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

Sadly, that’s the best update we’ve had for the film so far as it’s still unclear how far into production the film actually is, nor do we have confirmed date for when we’ll see the slayer return to the big screen.
