Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi seemingly confirmed by Sandman actor

Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi seemingly confirmed by Sandman actor

Return of the kings.

Over 16 years on from the release of Sam Raimi’s third Spider-Man movie, it’s thought that a fourth film could finally be in the works. That’s according to Spider-Man 3’s (and No Way Home’s) Sandman actor, Thomas Haden Church.

In a new interview with ComicBook, Church revealed that he’s heard “rumours” that Raimi could once again be teaming up with the original Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, to finally bring Spider-Man 4 to life. What’s more, if it happens, Church is totally down to be part of it.

Before we get into it, take a look at our interview with Spider-Man star Tom Holland below.

“I've heard rumours… that Sam Raimi was going to do another [Spider-Man movie] with Tobey and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo,” Church told ComicBook.

It may have been years since Spider-Man 3 released, but Spider-Man 4’s existence might not be as far fetched as you’d imagine. After all, once upon a time, it was definitely in pre-production, but it sadly ended up being scrapped. Raimi spoke about this in more detail during an interview with Moviepilot last year, when he said: “We had a script years ago and we were actively working in pre-production. It was just that, it became a thing where there was a deadline and I didn’t want to make something which was less than great.”

He continued: “I thought I had compromised a bit on Spider-Man 3, and I really wanted to pay the audience back on Spider-Man 4 and make the best Spider-Man of all. I couldn’t get the script together in that amount of time, so I told Sony I think it’s best if you go ahead with your planned alternate Spider-Man storyline because I didn’t want to let the audience down.”

Furthermore, Raimi teased at the time that he’s “completely open” to working with Maguire on a new Spider-Man film, and added that: “I didn’t think it was possible but after jumping back in with the multiverse, I realised, just like Doctor Strange does, anything is possible now.”

Of course, there’s a chance that Church may have heard the same whispers from the rumour mill that we all have, so we shouldn’t take his statement as firm confirmation that Spider-Man 4 is back from the dead. We can live in hope though, right?
