Fans of the 2022 TV series Obi-Wan Kenobi may want to cover their eyes and ears as a recent interview with star Ewan McGregor reveals a second season may not be on the cards.
Released in May 2022, Obi-Wan Kenobi was a television mini-series that told the story of Obi-Wan who after surviving Order 66, now finds himself living in exile under the alias ‘Ben’. Set 10 years after the events of 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan is tasked with looking after Anakin’s son, Luke but that is until he is called on a mission to rescue Anakin’s daughter, Leia.

The show already saw Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader and season one was generally well-received with a 7.1/10 rating on IMDb at the time of writing. However, it appears a second season is not on the cards, at least not yet.

In a recent interview with Ewan McGregor courtesy of Variety, the actor said he would “love” to make a second season but “there’s no talk of it yet”. He also added that there is reportedly a “lot going on at Disney” but did not offer more information than this.
This news is perhaps unsurprising considering Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said season two was not in “active development” back in 2023 but did say there was “always the possibility” considering McGregor “really wants to do another”.
In perhaps even more surprising news, McGregor also revealed that he was initially hesitant to play the role of Obi-Wan back in 1999's Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. "I didn't think it was at all who I was," McGregor said.
"When these films came out, they were so disliked. That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered," he said. However, he has since gone on to be thankful he took the role and is happy with his performance despite initial negative reviews.

It remains to be seen if fans will ever see Obi-Wan Kenobi season two but with the cast and crew ready to go, it would be a shame not to see where the story goes.
