Amouranth Claps Back After Exploitation Claims

Twitch star Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa has responded to the naysayers who claim that her story about the businessman who became upset when she declined his invitation for dinner is not true.
In summary, Siragusa had been approached to work with a new brand through a businessman who contacted one of her assistants to strike up a commercial opportunity for both parties. However, after several months of collaboration, he told her that he would be travelling to her city and wanted to meet for dinner. Siragusa didn’t want to do this, as she felt it was inappropriate and potentially unsafe in a “post-pandemic world.”

She chose not to respond to his invitation for dinner, and he “immediately became aggressive, threatening to end the deal,” which surprised Siragusa and she argued that he had been seeking a more personal relationship in the midst of a professional partnership. While she named no names, she shared her experience with the aim to “hold ourselves and the people around us to a higher standard of professionalism when working with women.”
Detractors aren’t convinced, though. People asked the streamer for specifics and others said that it’s possible that Siragusa missed some social cues.
“There is the narrative of [a] guy working with [a] famous attractive girl, seeing an opening to meet [a] business partner, is immediately accused of inappropriate behavior via the lack of acknowledgement, resulting in his rage,” said one. Siragusa was not accepting this reaction from the cynics, though.

She also added that there was the complexity of a “power dynamic inequity” within the professional partnership which meant any possible romantic invitations would have always been inappropriate.

“I have been in so many situations like this before, and I’m sure that other girls in this profession are met with these situations all the time, where you expect to be treated appropriately in the context of a business deal, and instead are met with suggestive ‘offers’ or interactions that completely shatter any concept of professionalism,” she said in the original story.
“It is unacceptable for women to have to be trained on how to politely decline a request that makes them uncomfortable, or worse, force themselves to accept, just to continue to maintain brand relations and partnerships,” she concluded. While some might not take stock in her statements, she has offered to contact streamers and tell them who this was so they might be able to avoid this happening to them too.
