Twitch Chat Raise Nearly $60,000 After Small Streamer Shares His Cancer Story

Twitch Chat Raise Nearly $60,000 After Small Streamer Shares His Cancer Story

Sometimes the people on the internet are alright.

There is always a lot of talk about hate raids, assaults, and hacking, that we rarely have time to read about the sweeter, cuter side of Twitch and chat.

Halo streamer, TwoQuickOnes, was surfing the online streaming site looking for people broadcasting without viewers. He would find a streamer, chat for a little while, and donate $1 hoping to give each person a boost in confidence. That’s when he came across Jay_Squatch, a small-time streamer who was playing Fortnite. Despite Jay’s upbeat attitude and luxurious beard he had only around 100 followers.

You can see the full story from the man himself by watching the video below.

TwoQuickOnes asked how much Jay would take to shave off his beard live on stream, and that’s when he revealed that the beard was not long for this world. The 29-year-old newlywed has Ewing sarcoma cancer, and as such is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Because of the treatment, Jay would likely lose all of his hair. Not only this but as Jay’s treatment is so aggressive he often has to stay in the hospital for a number of days at a time.

Quitting work following his diagnosis, Jay set up a GoFundMe to subsidise his living costs alongside whatever he can make while he streams. However, he hadn’t raised a large amount of money at the time that TwoQuickOnes appeared in his chat.

After TwoQuickOnes shared Jay’s story with his followers both his stream and donations exploded in popularity. Now his GoFundMe has reached almost $60,000 out of the $85,000 asked for. Not only that, but he received many more donations via Twitch itself. His follower count has also gone up dramatically and he has almost 13k followers on the platform.

Looking at his latest streams, Jay has already taken the plunge and shaved off his hair and beard. While he didn’t end up shaving it all off on stream, we must say that he’s looking suave in his new style too.
