Ubisoft Have Announced Some Really Good News For Assassin's Creed Fans

Ubisoft has changed course on the imminent shutdown of online services for some Assassin's Creed titles, offering players a whole month to mop up any last achievements that are only possible through multiplayer challenges.
Such is the way of things now that cherished games will eventually disappear as developers pivot away from maintaining the servers and the tech required to ensure their longevity. It makes sense, but that doesn't lessen the annoyance that these games will no longer be available in their full form, even if you've paid for them.

Earlier in summer, Ubisoft stated that the servers for Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD, Assassin's Creed Revelations, and more would be deactivated in order to "focus [its] resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles." Yet, the developer has now chosen to delay the deactivation date so that players have a chance to make the most of the games.
"The single-player DLC of several games on PC - Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed III (2012 release), Far Cry 3 and Splinter Cell Blacklist - will be available to download and keep before that date. If you own these games on PC, activate your DLC before the decommissioning on October 1 to continue playing it," explained Ubisoft in the update. "There will be no impact to the same single-player DLC on consoles, and you will continue to be able to download and play them after October 1."
While you're here, you might have missed a very mysterious photo from actor Roger Craig Smith who was spotted standing outside Ubisoft Montreal. Smith is the voice of Ezio Auditore, Batman in Batman: Arkham Origins, Chris Redfield in a handful of the Resident Evil games, Mirage in Apex Legends, as well as the narrator to the reality TV show Say Yes to the Dress. Has he said yes to the reprising of his role as one of the most famous fictional assassins? We'll have to wait and see.
