Ubisoft's open-world Star Wars game is coming sooner than expected

Ubisoft's open-world Star Wars game could be released as soon as next year according to sources.

If you’ve already finished Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and you’re craving your next Star Wars gaming fix, it may actually not be too far away. It’s believed that Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars open-world game is coming much sooner than we originally thought.

There are plenty of Star Wars games in the pipeline. There are rumours that the Knights of the Old Republic Remake is on shaky ground, but we could get an update on Quantic Dreams’ Eclipse pretty soon, hopefully with showcase season almost upon us. There’s also Uncharted creator Amy Hennig’s untitled Star Wars game, and that’s just to name a few. It’s the upcoming open-world entry from Ubisoft though that could supposedly release as soon as next year.

Check out our review of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor below.

As reported by Kotaku, Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars title is currently slated for an “early 2024” release. During a recent investors call, Ubisoft listed Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones, and “another large game” in their upcoming release slate. Sources close to the company have reportedly told Kotaku that this mystery “large game” is indeed the open-world Star Wars game.

Considering the game could be unveiled in just a couple of months, we know very little about it. It’s being developed by Massive, who created The Division 1 and 2, and it was referred to as ‘story driven’ back when it was announced. The game has been developed in the Snowdrop Engine which was also used for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Back in December, Massive did invite players to apply to be playtesters so actually, it makes a lot of sense that the title may be close to completion. With the Ubisoft Forward planned for 12 June, it shouldn’t be long until we find out exactly what’s going on.
