Ultimate Spider-Man is being praised as a top-tier Spider-Man game, and one that definitely deserves more love.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is right around the corner, set to drop on PlayStation 5 consoles on 20 October. It’ll continue the story Insomniac Games started for Peter and Miles, and will see the two webheads go toe-to-toe with one of the best Spider-Man villains ever, Venom.

Check out our preview for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

It’s not the first game to tell the story of Symbiote Spider-Man though, as Ultimate Spider-Man has it beat by about 18 years. Released for the PlayStation 2, original Xbox, Nintendo GameCube and other platforms, the game tells the familiar tale of Peter finding the Symbiote, using it, discarding it, and battling it when it takes over Eddie Brock.

While you played as Spidey for a good portion of the game, you also got to play as Venom, who had a completely different style where he couldn’t swing from webs, and was constantly losing health, which would only be replenished by feeding on the helpless citizens of New York.

Years later, fans are praising the game as severely underrated, agreeing that while Insomniac Games will likely steal the show once again with its third Spider-Man adventure, it’s still good to show some love for the older titles.

In a post by No-Knowledge-5291 asking for people’s thoughts on Ultimate Spider-Man, fans came together to share their overwhelmingly positive opinions on the game.

“Best Spider-Man game because you can play as Venom, if that doesn't sell you on it, then I don't know what will," said one fan. “Spider-Man 2 was my favorite Spidey game until this one came out. Update the controls and this one would still be playable. The graphics are timeless,” added another.

“Before Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales came out, this game was top three in Spidey games for me,” said one comment.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch for PS5 on 20 October, and will hopefully give us that same power-trip feeling of playing as Venom in Ultimate Spider-Man.
