The 'Uncharted' Movie Is Being Torn Apart By Critics

So, Uncharted has been out in UK cinemas since Friday now. Had the chance to see it yet? In our review, we described it as “funny, action-packed, and full of surprises”, and “a good-time movie, guaranteed to make most who see it smile.” 

By the sounds of it though, it seems we might have been slightly generous. Over on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s no exaggeration to say that critics are ripping Uncharted to shreds. Right now, it’s sitting at a very middling 51% on the Tomatometer, from a total of 37 critic reviews (there’s no audience score yet, since the film isn’t out while 18 February in the US). 

“Uncharted shambles along like a reanimated husk of better action-adventure movies before it, filled not with a soul but with jokes and funnies to make up for the fact that we've seen all this before.” - Hoai-Tran Bui, Slashfilm.

“Even by standards of suspending disbelief for far-fetched action movies, Uncharted is still a disjointed and disappointing mess that thinks it's funnier and better than it really is.” - Carla Hay, Culture Mix. 

“Uncharted is an odd, disjointed film that features no shortage of big set pieces slathered in CGI, but what it really lacks is a personality.” - Sean Mulvihill, FanboyNation.

“Uncharted again proves that video games inspired by classic movies - in this case Indiana Jones - should probably stay video games, because this soulless action-adventure flick feels like a dusty double-photocopy of Harrison Ford's blockbuster franchise.” - Shaun Munro, Flickering Myth.

“The movie feels uptight, joyless even when riffing on much-loved old favourites. If you can’t actually enjoy lifting bits from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jackie Chan’s Police Story, you should leave them where you found them.” - Danny Leigh, Financial Times.

“Abandon hope all ye who enter here. There truly is no future for the video-game-to-movie adaptation if Hollywood can’t even crack Uncharted.” - Clarisse Loughrey, Independent.
