This Unreal Engine 5 Bionicle Game Is A Childhood Dream Come True

We've just got our first look at the upcoming fan-game's gameplay and combat, and it looks genuinely fantastic.

Last year, we covered an incredibly promising, upcoming fan-made Bionicle game, called Masks of Power. The project is being developed by Team Kanohi, and has been a work-in-progress since 2015 - it’s set to follow the original 2001 Bionicle storyline and feature a stunning open world.

Take a look at the teaser trailer for Masks of Power below.

Now, as reported by DSOGaming, it’s been confirmed that the whole thing is being built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, which is super exciting. The devs have released a brand new preview, showcasing the gameplay and combat for the first time, and it looks genuinely great - check it out here.

“The ancient tropical island of Mata Nui is home to beautiful vistas, formidable dangers, and countless mysteries. Once a tranquil paradise, Mata Nui’s inhabitants have been cast into shadow by the dark spirit known only as the Makuta,” the game’s description on Steam reads. “Tribes of brave Matoran villagers struggle to survive, placing their hopes in the arrival of legendary Toa heroes. Discover the island’s six distinct regions, brave its perils, and unlock its secrets in this all-new open-world adventure.”

Bionicle fans in the YouTube comments are understandably hyped: “Everything about this is just so Bionicle. I have been looking forward to this game since I found out about it. Even this work in progress looks amazing. Bionicle WAS my childhood. I grew up with it and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for keeping Bionicle alive. This is looking to be an incredible game,” wrote thrashmash.

There’s currently no release window set for the game, but if you’re interested, you can download the legacy version of Masks of Power totally free from the devs’ website.
