Upcoming GTA game seemingly cancelled by Rockstar Games

The Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR game is presumably cancelled, as literally nothing has been said about it since its announcement.

The Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR game is presumably cancelled, as literally nothing has been said about it since its announcement.

In case you weren’t aware, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was confirmed to be getting a VR game for the Meta Quest 2 a few years ago.

Since then, there’s been no update on the title whatsoever, with the project surrounded by radio silence like another one of Rockstar’s games, Grand Theft Auto VI.

Its disappearance is even more confusing when you consider the Meta Quest 2 has been officially usurped by the Meta Quest 3, which is an upgrade in almost every way according to our review. Whether or not Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR’s development has shifted to the Quest 3 or has been scrapped entirely is unknown.

It’s a shame too, as teasers for the game made it sound like the definitive San Andreas experience, that would allow players to see the fan-favourite game from an entirely new perspective.

When asked about the development of the VR title, Meta staff replied with either “no comment” or made it clear that they “don’t have any updates to share,” further implying the project is either scrapped or in development hell.

Luckily, Grand Theft Auto fans are no strangers to being left in the dark, as they’re still patiently awaiting news on Grand Theft Auto VI, which many expect to be announced by the end of the month. Take that with a pinch of salt.

The next GTA game is expected to release sometime in 2025, and will reportedly blow fans away with its scale and gameplay, supposedly boasting a huge open world filled with activities to do. It’s also believed the game’s graphics will be even better than Red Dead Redemption 2, a game that’s still praised for its jawdropping visuals five years after its release.

As for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR though, it’s probably safe to assume it’s either dead in the water, or won’t be releasing for quite some time.
