Valkyrae Says Backlash Over Her Skincare Company Has Caused "Mental Damage"

Valkyrae Says Backlash Over Her Skincare Company Has Caused "Mental Damage"

The streamer was faced huge controversy with the release of blue-light skincare brand RFLCT

Valkyrae has returned to streaming following her skincare line RFLCT shutting down less than two weeks after its reveal. The products claimed that they’d protect against blue-light emitted from screens like computers and phones, but failed to provide public evidence that any damage was caused by this light in the first place. After many people questioned the validity of the products’ claims, and Valkyrae did a messy stream uncovering a lot behind the scenes, the brand shut down. Rae has now come forward saying she’s suffered “mental damage” from the process.

As reported by Dexerto, Valkyrae returned to streaming after the break caused by RFLCT’s controversy. The streamer came back to YouTube with updates about how RFLCT ended and how she’s held up since, which includes going to therapy.

She says in the stream from November 2: “Small update, I’m going to therapy. I have a therapist. And I have a lot of trauma. I’ve been going through it, I have depression. But I’m hopeful. RFLCT is no longer, we officially separated, without a lawsuit”, she laughs. “And they pulled all the products out of 400 stores. Yeah, so that happened. It was a clean break.”

“I got really lucky that there wasn’t a lawsuit, but I do think that I have mental damage from all of this for sure. Mhmm, but we’re okay, I think. I think I streamed sooner than I should have.”

She reports having bad brain fog to her viewers and although it's been traumatic, she’s learned a lot in the process. She says: "I’m not perfect and I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I was incredibly naive, and it’s been a big learning lesson. I’m going to be more careful with everything moving on now, that’s for sure. I’m naive, impulsive, and too trusting. [Disguised] Toast told me the last one.”

It’s obviously going to be a while until Valkyrae sets off on a new business adventure as she’s still processing this one. RFLCT was two years in the making and was over in a fortnight, so we don’t expect her to put her name to a new project for a little while.
