Verdansk Is Returning To 'Call Of Duty: Warzone', But Not For Everyone

When Call of Duty: Warzone was released in 2020, it was all Verdansk this and Verdansk that… until it wasn’t, with the launch map removed and replaced by Caldera at the end of 2021 as the game’s main open-world environment to play in. But a great many of Warzone’s 100-plus million players would love to see Verdansk back in rotation, in some form or other - and it looks like they might just get their wish.

As posted to Reddit, a recent comment from Activision live operations manager Alex Summers confirms that Verdansk is about to stage a comeback. “Verdansk will be coming back,” he says, adding that it’ll be playable “sometime next year” and that it’ll be available “on certain platforms”. The key words here are, obviously, “certain” and “platforms”. The free-to-play Warzone is currently available across consoles and PC, and a mobile version was announced in March 2022. That version should be coming out in 2023, which aligns enough with Summers’ comments that it’s easy to put two and two together and predict that the return of Verdansk could be limited to the mobile version. Would they do such a thing? Hold back a much-requested feature to encourage downloads of their new game? Do bears poop in the woods?

Which isn’t to say there’ll be no Verdansk on console and PC - a ‘2.0’ version is in the works too, which might see the fan-favourite map included. Or, perhaps, whatever ‘2.0’ is - the sequel, obvs - sticks to new-gen only (which Activision has previously announced) and moves on from any previous maps, meaning that Verdansk gets added to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms. Who really knows? What’s more, who cares? I mean, millions of you, of course. Fair enough. But not this guy, that’s for sure, who’s far more interested in the lawsuits going on right now at the game’s makers and seeing current CEO Bobby Kotick kicked the f out of Activision.
