Here’s a helping of good news for you. Matthew Lillard is voicing Shaggy in MultiVersus, the new Super Smash Bros-style title from Warner Bros.

Featuring Batman, Superman, Bugs Bunny, Arya Stark, Tom and Jerry and more, the free-to-play game is coming in 2022. With “dedicated server-based rollback netcode and content-filled seasons,” there are stages inspired by the properties under Warner Bros. umbrella, like the Batcave and Finn and Jake’s treehouse, as well as a 2v2 team mode and a four player free-for-all mode.

Unfortunately for Switch owners, MultiVersus is releasing for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and full cross-play is possible. Like Super Smash Bros., each character will boast their own unique abilities. For example, Wonder Woman has her Lasso of Truth, Arya Stark disguises herself with her face-swapping, Superman has trademark laser vision, and Shaggy can throw sandwiches at enemies.

Speaking of, Matthew Lillard is lending his voice to Shaggy once again, after appearing as the character in the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo movie, its sequel in 2004, and has voiced the detective in animation since 2009. Lillard is definitely the actor that I and no doubt countless others associate with the character, so it’s brilliant to see (and hear) that he’s stepping into the role once again in MultiVersus.

In the game, Shaggy throws sandwiches at enemies and also has access to his Ultra Instinct state, therefore legitimising the meme that claims the character has untold power at his fingertips. It’s even referenced in the animated Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms where Shaggy grabs Scorpion by his neck and yanks him off-screen to be obliterated, I assume.
