Warzone 2.0’s second season is almost upon us, but it’s coming bundled with a surprise that not everyone is happy about.
DMZ has been a contentious mode in Warzone 2.0 since day one. Prior to launch, many expected it to play more similarly to Escape from Tarkov than it actually does - the lack of in-game economy proved to be particularly questionable, with some suggesting that it made the mode feel “pointless”. Shortly after the game’s release, some began paying others to unlock a DMZ-exclusive weapon for them so that they wouldn’t have to play themselves, which speaks volumes.

In the run-up to season two, Infinity Ward has released an overview of what’s to come to the game, and revealed that there will be a “seasonal refresh” in DMZ, which will include “a refresh of your current Faction mission progress and an inventory (Contraband and Keys) reset.” As Call of Duty news account @ModernWarzone writes on Twitter, many players are feeling “blindsided” by this.

“As someone who plays extraction shooters and suffers Tarkov regularly, even I thought [the] wipe was odd for DMZ. Game doesn’t have any particular progression in terms of gear or skills etc. so why? The most significant change you can achieve is extra prebuilt weapon slot? Why wipe[?]” questioned @MALDOxMEMES. “I won’t lie if I wasn’t a content creator this would make me stop playing DMZ. I don’t think a full wipe in a game that’s casual-focused is a necessity,” wrote @ChrisCovent. “Me, who’s finally got 14/26 blowtorches that it’s taken [sic] me two months to find,” posted @50gabesofshade, along with a very appropriate reaction meme.
Season two has been delayed slightly, and will be launching on 15 February for both Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0, so there’s a couple of weeks until DMZ progress is wiped. Make the most of it while you can.
