Will Smith Hit With Further Consequences In Response To Oscars Incident

Will Smith Hit With Further Consequences In Response To Oscars Incident

Bad Boys 4 is among the projects currently in limbo

It's been just over a week since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, but sweet baby Moses does it feel like longer.

The last 10 days have seen a decade's worth of analysis, criticism, apologies, and hot takes from people who clearly have to share their opinion like it's a medical condition. Maybe they explode into chunks of flesh of bone if they don't express every dull thought they have on the internet? I just don't know.

Will Smith's mother also shared her views on Sunday night's incident - take a look below.

What I do know is that Will Smith is facing numerous consequences for his actions. Last week the actor officially resigned from the Academy, meaning he'll no longer be able to vote in future Oscars. But the slap seen around the world has also potentially cost him a lot of future work.

While Smith has apologised and owned up to his mistake, the word is that several of the projects he was attached to are now in a state of limbo. Presumably so Hollywood execs can weigh up the entirely manufactured outrage that will occur online if the star is allowed to continue working.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Netflix has already stepped away from Fast And Loose, an upcoming drama that was set to star Smith.

THR also reports that Sony has slammed the brakes on Bad Boys 4. The sequel to Bad Boys For Life had been in active development, and Smith had already received a portion of the script. Now it's unclear if the movie will go ahead at all.

Apple Plus' slave drama Emancipation is still on track for a 2022 release, however Apple has yet to commit to a specific air date. THR speculates that "a few other projects in pre-production" are probably also on hold - presumably as they wait to see if/when the noise around the Oscars incident dies down.
