The Witcher: Henry Cavill's final season gets first trailer

It’s finally arrived. The first trailer for season three of Netflix’s The Witcher series is here and it’s an important one. The upcoming season will serve as Henry Cavill’s last before the actor hands over the reins to Liam Hemsworth.

In case you missed it, Cavill will depart from The Witcher at the end of season three. While the actor didn’t officially state a reason for leaving, it’s believed that he didn’t agree with the direction the writers were taking the show in. In fact, fans even started a petition asking Netflix to fire the show’s writers and rehire Cavill. Fellow cast members have already expressed their sadness at the news, and fans aren’t won over by the idea of Hemsworth as Geralt yet either. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though. We’ve got an entire season of Cavill to enjoy and now, Netflix has dropped a new trailer.

It looks to be an action-packed season. The official synopsis reads, “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

Consider my interest piqued. In addition to the trailer, we also have a premiere date. The Witcher’s third season will officially air in two parts. Volume One will kick off on 29 June, followed by Volume Two on 27 July. In total, the season will consist of eight episodes.

It’s not yet known exactly how those eight episodes will be split across the two parts but oh boy, it sounds like an exciting season. It’ll be great to see Cavill back in action one last time.
