‘Conker’s’ Great Mighty Poo Fight Is Troubling The Xbox Series X

‘Conker’s’ Great Mighty Poo Fight Is Troubling The Xbox Series X

Well this stinks

One of the big advantages of this next console generation for Xbox players is that Microsoft has opened up a huge backlog of games for your enjoyment. As old hardware dies it's important to keep past games alive and kicking for new generations of gamers. It's a gaming legacy that's at stake here. But unfortunately, it seems that Conker's Bad Fur Day is having some digestion issues with the famous Great Mighty Poo fight on Xbox Series X and S.

Spotted by VGC, there are clips showing the Great Mighty Poo boss fight 'soft locking' which means the speedrunners trying to pass it are getting stuck. A soft lock just means the boss fight is getting broken - something in the code just isn't lining up and the one way to kill the Great Mighty Poo isn't activating.

Conker is supposed to throw toilet roll into the boss's mouth when the Poo opens it, but that just isn't happening as the game looks like it's getting confused with the cutscene before the fight happens. There are three clips that the speedrunners provide to show Rare that the soft lock isn't just a one-time problem and now Rare seems to be getting sorting the issue out.

Arbliterator on Twitter is the one to show Rare the problem with a tweet that says, "Hey Rare the Great Mighty Poo fight on the new Xbox consoles is completely broken, this soft lock happens very frequently and it's a huge problem for anyone trying to play the game. I'm gonna reply with videos of me and my friend getting this soft lock below." And yeah, they follow up with a few examples where you can see gamers getting pretty frustrated with the issue.

Arbliterator goes on to theorise that the issue is actually because of the incredibly fast loading times that the new Xboxes have which is confusing the game. The music for the stinky sing-a-long is the biggest indicator of if the soft lock has happened - if the music stops when you pause, the Poo will play nice. If the music continues, the boss fight is completely broken and will not allow you to win.

Rare does respond with "Thanks for this Arb, as well as the clips - we're forwarding it to The Right People." We hope that the issue is fixed for speedrunners who want to continue playing the game with next-gen consoles.
