‘Doom Eternal’ Arrives On Xbox Game Pass Next Week

Hell's bells.

Doom Eternal will land on Xbox Game Pass on October 1, and doubtlessly it will be the first of numerous Bethesda games to be added to the service following ZeniMax's acquisition by Microsoft.

So that everyone is up to speed, ZeniMax is the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios. When Microsoft bought the company last week, it brought IPs like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dishonored, Wolfenstein, and of course, DOOM, under its umbrella. The news was mega for the industry, and it only cost Microsoft a measly $7.5 billion. That's almost three times more than what they paid for Mojang Studios in 2014. Small change for a company as massive as this one, really.

"Over the years I've had many deep conversations with the creative leaders at Bethesda on the future of gaming and we've long shared similar visions for the opportunities for creators and their games to reach more players in more ways," said Xbox boss Phil Spencer of the acquisition. "Just as they took the bold first steps to bring The Elder Scrolls franchise to the original Xbox, Bethesda were early supporters of Xbox Game Pass, bringing their games to new audiences across devices and have been actively investing in new gaming technology like cloud streaming of games."

Titles like Fallout 76, Dishonored 2, Rage 2, and Wolfenstein Youngblood are already on Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox assures that games from Bethesda's "iconic franchises" will be added to the service in time. Upcoming games, such as Starfield, will be available through Xbox Game Pass from day one, and we could expect future games from Bethesda to be timed exclusives for PC and Xbox.

Anyway, back to Doom Eternal. Following on from DOOM 2016, the Doom Slayer must stop the Maykrs from eradicating humanity for good, before Earth falls to the forces of Hell. With a cracking soundtrack composed by Mick Gordon, the game introduces platforming elements to the classic first-person shooter, and The Ancient Gods: Part One DLC will launch on October 20.

Doom Eternal will come to Xbox Game Pass on October 1, and will arrive for Xbox Game Pass for PC "later in 2020."
