The Horizon series from Guerrilla Games is one of PlayStation’s most popular franchises and at the heart of its story is Aloy. It’s fair to say that the Horizon series will never come to Xbox, but gamers on the green brand will be getting its closest inspiration to the Aloy character yet with Unknown 9: Awakening.
Announced during the recent Xbox Partner Preview event, developed by Reflector Entertainment and published by Bandai Namco, Unknown 9: Awakening features a main protagonist named Haroona, who’s a bit like Aloy on the basis that she’s a strong leading character that can kick ass but with a supernatural twist. What’s more, Haroona will be played by Anya Chalotra who is of course Yennefer of Vengerberg of Netflix’s live-action, The Witcher series.

“Unknown 9: Awakening is a third-person, narrative-driven, action-adventure game that follows the story of Haroona, a Quaestor born with the ability to venture into the Fold; a mysterious dimension that overlaps our own. On her quest for powerful hidden knowledge, she will learn to master her unique connection to the Fold, which allows her to channel its powers into our world,” reads the press release from Bandai Namco.

“Players will take on the role of Haroona, who embarks on a globetrotting journey to right the wrongs of her past. As this quest unfolds, players will choose whether to ambush opponents from the shadows or fight by stepping into their enemies to control them, dodge bullets, shield attacks, hurl energy, and devise creative combat combinations to customise their playstyle.”
Bandai Namco says that Unknown 9: Awakening will be the entry point of its new IP which will expand into comic books, novels, podcasts and more, and has even teased crossover events. So Bandai Namco clearly has high hopes for its new franchise.
Unknown 9: Awakening will be released sometime this coming summer for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
