'Gears 5' Update Swaps Marcus Fenix For Dave Bautista

When playing Gear 5 did you ever think to yourself, "hm, this campaign needs a little more Dave Bautista. I really enjoyed his work in Guardians of the Galaxy and he suits the Gears of War universe pretty well, I wish he was here instead of Marcus"? Sure you did, because he's now being swapped into the game instead of Marcus Fenix.

Reported first by IGN, the 51-year-old wrestler turned actor is making a surprise reappearance in Gear 5 as part of an update. A flick of a switch and instead of Marcus Fenix's face and voice, you'll get Bautista's - it fits so well you can't tell he wasn't playing the original character.

Bautista has already appeared in the game as a multiplayer skin but this development is the next step in introducing the man, the myth, the legend into the Gears universe. Why? Well, it's because fans, and Bautista himself, really wanted to be part of the Gears of War film as Marcus. Although he tried "everything" to get a part in the film, apparently it was not to be and Hollywood just won't let him in.

Instead, he's now part of the universe in another way which might just about satisfy him. I personally would let Dave Bautista into a film I was making, but maybe that's because I remember he has superheroes as friends - powerful enemies right?

It's probably a good time to mention some of the other upgrades coming to the next-gen version of the shooter not that we've covered perhaps the most important one. You might like to know that some of the other changes include 120 fps online PVP, cutscenes in 60fps, if you want to replay the campaign, there is now a new game+ mode. Also, don't forget faster loading times - those are always a nice touch, we've even got a video to show you the difference between them from our preview of the Xbox Series X.
