'Halo Infinite' Debut Gameplay Demo Is A Stunning, Back-To-Basics Return

Microsoft kicked off its Xbox Series X games showcase with the thing we've all been dying to see most: An extended look at Halo Infinite in action. A stunning gameplay demo gave us an exciting glimpse of a Halo game that seems to be taking a back-to-basics approach, while also implementing new ideas all of its own.

The official description teases: "In Halo Infinite's campaign, the Master Chief returns when humanity's fate hangs in the balance to confront the most ruthless foe he's ever faced - the Banished."

But you know what? Enough out of me. Take a look at the eight-minute trailer for yourself below, and allow yourself to feel the hype - Master Chief is back!

The campaign demo kicks off after the tragic events of Halo 5, will Master Chief striking out pretty much completely alone. With virtually zero backup, we're taken through an area that manages to show us all of the things you'd want to see from a Halo game. Grunts being gunned down, Warthog action, and Master Chief generally being a straight-up badass. You absolutely love to see it.

Developer 343 Industries describes Halo Infinite as the most ambitious Halo game to date, using next-gen technology to bring the Halo ring to life like never before. The developer also teased the game's massive world as being twice the size of the last two Halo games combined, something that was alluded to in the brief look we got at the game's map during the trailer.

Despite Xbox boss Phil Spencer describing the Xbox Series X as the best place to play Halo Infinite, it'll be possible to play the upcoming FPS on Xbox One and PC when it launches during the holiday period. As with all first-party Xbox titles, it'll also be available to download and play from day one for all Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Not too shabby.

While we only got a little taste of the single-player campaign today, there's plenty more to come. 343 promised that we can expect to a first look at multiplayer in action in the near future, so look out for that. For now, let's just be happy that Halo is back - and it's really never looked better.
