'Halo Infinite' Old School Box Art Unveiled, And Fans Are Losing Their Minds

Time to party like it's 2001.

It's been some time since I've been all that excited for a new Halo game, but the latest Halo Infinite reveal has me all in a tizzy - and I'm not alone. Microsoft has shared a first look at the upcoming shooter's box art, and there are two things that have gotten fans really excited. The first is that it's absolute bloody beautiful. The second is that it's clearly referencing the box art of the original Halo: Combat Evolved.

Take a look for yourself below. Is this reference to the very beginning merely an aesthetic choice to get old-school fans on board, or does it have a deeper meaning? Will the new game's story call back to the events of that iconic original trilogy? I have absolutely no idea, but I can't wait to find out.

I'm not saying we should judge a game by its cover, but we should allow ourselves a moment to get excited by this cover. Halo has been out of our lives for too long, and the reveal of this cover art seems to me to be a real statement of intent from developer 343 Industries. The Chief is back, and his fans are absolutely loving it, as you can see.

Eagle-eyed fans have also noticed a few crucial details hiding in the new art. Grappling hooks, aerial combat, and the game's primary villain are all quite clearly hinted at, if you know where to look.

There's already a lot to be excited for, clearly. Hopefully Microsoft will provide more details - and answers to some of our newfound questions - during tomorrow's Xbox Series X gameplay event. You'll be able to tune into that from 5pm BST, so be sure to check it out.
