Images of the upcoming Halo TV series in production with Showtime have apparently leaked onto the Internet, offering us our first possible look at Master Chief on the goggle box.

Originally announced in 2014, the project had languished in development hell for four years, which isn't a patch on the Uncharted movie but let's remember it's not a competition here. Steven Spielberg is attached to executive produce the show, with Otto Bathurst as its director. Not only a man with an absurd name, Bathurst has won a BAFTA for his work on Peaky Blinders and directed two episodes of BBC One's His Dark Materials. The story itself will be "an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant," and promises to "weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future." The key words here are "richly imagined" as the show's production allegedly cost 343 Industries and Showtime a ginormous $40 million in 2019 alone. No one's cutting corners here.

Halo: Infinite might have been run through the wringer in 2020, but its delay only means good things for fans. The team feels less pressure, there's more time for polishing, and it'll arrive just ahead of the new TV show. These are the things we'd love to see in the next game.

Understandably, the companies involved in the Halo TV show have kept the progressing project under wraps in order to drum up as much hype as possible. However, there are always going to be a few ferreting around for any leaks or sneak peeks of the show, and this time, they've struck gold. Resetera user Madness claims that they have a copy of an awaited trailer of Showtime's Halo, though they were only willing to share two screenshots of it. One has sent fans into a frenzy as it is our first look at Master Chief in costume. Follow the link just above to take a look.

That is certainly Master Chief right there. No shadow of a doubt. The other individual is possibly the Prophet of Truth, as I have been informed by our channel manager Tom Ryan-Smith. As one of the Hierarchs of the Covenant Empire, Truth starts the war against humanity and will likely become the central antagonist of the show's story. Yet, Halo isn't planning to tread the same ground as the games. Makee, for example, is a human who has been raised by the Covenant and shares their disdain for her species. We'll get the whole picture when this trailer debuts, and I'll bet that this will occur during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase on June 13th. Halo comes to the Paramount Plus service in 2022.
