Sometimes we think to ourselves that gaming could always do with even more battle royales. It's not enough that we have Apex Legends, Warzone, Fortnite, PUBG, Tetris 99, and the rest of them - we could always... No actually maybe we're fine with the ones we have right now thank you, that's a lot of battle passes to be getting on with. Which is why we've sighed a breath of relief as Halo Infinite devs confirm the game won't have a battle royale mode, and the rumours are just rumours, nothing more.

As Eurogamer reports, the first time fans started hearing about this rumoured battle royale mode about a month ago on the subreddit HaloLeaks. The writer of the post claimed that in 2021 there are plans to release a "Battle Royal" mode for free on Zeta Halo.

This information made its way on to Twitter where people started taking the claim seriously and finally it fell to 343 Industries to tell fans that these murmurs were completely unfounded. Brain Jarrad, the Halo community director, tweeted about the situation, saying "Nothing gets a post-holiday Monday going like fresh unfounded Halo Infinite rumors".

Jarrad then goes on to make a thread about how he understands the excitement that comes with the being a fan and that a lack of information can bring fandoms to the point of creating these sorts of rumours. The thread reads, "As an avid fan of many properties (games, movies, TV, music) I 100% understand and appreciate the passion the Halo community has. I also understand the frustration when things don't go the way you want or it feels like you're somehow being wronged or not heard.

"I want to first just acknowledge how fortunate we are to have such a legacy and such a long-standing community that cares so much. It's not easy but I'd rather have people care - and even be mad - than not give a damn. Thank you.

"The Infinite road hasn't been easy. This year in particular has been incredibly challenging. We have hundreds of developers who truly only want to make the best Halo game they possibly can. It pains all of us when the community is hurting.

"No update is going to satisfy everyone. We want to turn the corner as 2020 comes to an end and leave the challenges of this year behind us and look ahead to 2021. We are committed to bringing you along on this journey, we just ask for a bit of patience and understanding."

So that's that - multiplayer of course will be coming to Halo Infinite but not a mode like Fortnite. Thank goodness I don't have to focus on yet another way to win a chicken dinner.
