Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that his company is "deep into architecturing the next Xbox consoles," which is reportedly set to release in two years.
Thurrot.com stated that the predicted release date would be some time in 2020, with Microsoft supposedly pushing the unrevealed project Scarlet as a "family of devices," rather than just one console.
The Xbox One X, which plays games in 4K definition, hasn't been around too long, so we don't think it will be a rush to get the next one out on shelves. Perhaps they've shared this information now because Sony bosses recently revealed that the 'PS5' isn't supposed to release for another three years, so maybe Microsoft are just trying to get on one step ahead of one of their biggest rivals.
Backwards compatibility has been a massive focus point for Xbox in the past couple of years, as original Xbox and 360 games have been put onto the market place for current-gen devices. There's no doubt that this new one would also include this feature for games which are coming out at the moment, but what else could it offer?
Many gaming experts, including Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot, believes that the next generation of consoles would be the last as streaming devices would take over. Could this be the direction that Microsoft are heading into?
We're not quite sure, but we predict that streaming will play some role in the release. Back in 2016, at E3, Microsoft revealed that they were working on Xbox TV, which ultimately got scrapped, and they could be going back to the drawing board on something similar. We imagine it being an Amazon Fire stick, but with more games.

These streaming devices were priced at $99 and enabled users to access Xbox games from another TV in their household, when plugged into a compatible screen. Is this something you'd like to see completed? We know we would and it would revolutionise the way the gaming industry is shaped, forever.
Nothing has been confirmed on whether they are once again working on streaming capabilities but Spencer promised fans that "we will once again deliver on our commitment to set the benchmark for console gaming," so something big is definitely coming.
