If you've yet to jump in the vast world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and you own an Xbox then you're in luck. You can play as Arthur Morgan in the wild west when the game heads to Xbox Game Pass from May 7.

That's still a couple of weeks away but you can pre-download Red Dead Redemption 2 right now so you're ready to go when it becomes available on the subscription service next month. Subscribers will also have access to Red Dead Online, the game's multiplayer offering.

It really couldn't have come at a better time with loads of us trying to find new ways to amuse ourselves during the coronavirus lockdown. We even included it in our list of open-world games to lose yourself in while you're stuck inside a few weeks ago so you know you're in for a real treat if you've yet to play it.

At the moment, it looks like Red Dead Redemption 2 will only be available for the console version of the Xbox Game Pass. There's currently no news stating if and when the Ultimate subscription (additionally allowing you to download and play games on PC) will get the game.

And if you've been living under a rock since Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018, here's the blurb:

"America, 1899. Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are outlaws on the run. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal, and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him."

The only real downside is that Grand Theft Auto V will leave Xbox Game Pass on May 7, to make way for Red Dead Redemption 2. You can check out the full update here on the official Xbox website.

If you've yet to try out the Xbox Game Pass subscription, now might a good time to give it a whirl. It's £7.99 a month and shopping around often gives you a lower price than that. If, however, it's your first time signing up, you can often grab your first month for £1, giving you access to a huge list of games to download and play whenever you want. Pretty handy to help keep away the boredom during the lockdown.
