Xbox Series X Update Fixes The Console's Most Annoying Flaw

A new system update for the Xbox Series X will address one of the console's most irritating flaws, it's been confirmed.

Those who use Microsoft's new-gen console will be aware that attempting to launch a game that requires an update doesn't always go smoothly. Players have frequently reported that the prompt to update doesn't always immediately appear, and that attempting to boot up a game can result in being kicked back to the dashboard multiple times before you realise what's happened and manually start the update yourself.

This new system update, which is being rolled out now to Xbox Alpha Insiders, will immediately let players know when a game requires an update and will prompt them to do so.

Apparently the update notification now showing up was because the console had yet to determine the size of the update. That's why it could sometimes take as long as 15 seconds to appear, and why games wouldn't always launch properly. Fortunately, this new update has found a way around this: the notification will appear instantly, and the file size will follow once the console knows what it is. Everybody wins!

There's no word yet on when this dazzling new feature will be available for everybody, but it shouldn't be more than a few weeks assuming it all goes smoothly with the early access testers. For now, let's just bask in the knowledge that the Xbox Series X's worst quirk is being ironed out at last.
