Some Xbox Series X Consoles Are Suffering From Disc Drive Issues

With any brand new mass-produced piece of tech, there are going to be issues with some of the products. This console cycle we have seen the PlayStation 5 being bricked by one game, we've seen the Xbox Series X shutting down randomly, and we've even had to watch as people blow vape into their consoles. Malfunctions are sadly a part of launches and another Xbox problem has arisen.

Some new Series Xs have had a tough time using the disc drive. There are reports of strange sounds happening as discs run inside the Series X or even the console not taking any discs in the first place. Polygon has compiled a bunch of the problems that players are experiencing and they all look incredibly frustrating.

This video shows the Xbox Series X on its side clicking wildly as it tries to run the disc inside the machine. The owner comments that although he's "never had any issues with Xbox at all before", his machine "has now turned into a mechanic machine gun or a metronome".

This next video shows the owner trying to insert a disc into their Series X with no luck. They test to see if there is already anything inside the console before trying to put a disc in and Xbox simply won't take it. "I've tried inserting a few different compatible games (box Xbox One and 360) and the drive won't let me insert it. Nothing is in there (to my knowledge). I just set it up."

There are a lot of other similar complaints. Xboxes not taking discs or making terrible sounds when the discs are inserted. Some users have said that their problems lessen or disappear when they change the orientation of the console which is at least a short term fix. However, long term this defect is particularly frustrating when you consider that the disc drive is one of the main reasons to purchase a Series X over the alternative Series S.
