We've known that there's a very limited-edition Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One coming our way for a while now. And it is truly a thing of beauty or a creation of abhorrent ugliness, indeed - delete as you feel is appropriate. It was back in April, just over a month ago, that the game's Xbox One X bundle was revealed, featuring themed console and controller, alongside a copy of the game. It's released on September 17.
What we didn't know then was the price. The controller alone? Sixty-five of your finest pounds sterling. (And we gave it a lovely spotlight in this video, right here.) But the console bundle emerged with plenty of pre-order links but no final asking price.
But now, we have one. Well, we have a price, at least. Albeit one we're not exactly buying, just yet. According to the Microsoft Store in the UK, the Xbox One X Cyberpunk 2077 limited-edition bundle will cost a whopping £1,399.99. Should that link there magically vanish, for whatever reason, we took a screenshot of the price, which you can see below.
Now, the immediate reaction here is one of two things: that's a placeholder price, or it's a mistake. Somebody put a one in front of that three, the big silly. But then again, it's also listed at $1,999.99 in the United States, which makes me think that maybe it's not a mistake at all.
And would it really be so wild that the final limited-edition Xbox One, with a production run of 45,000 units, with a heap of custom features (according to this making-of video), costs this much? There's a little bit of me, deep inside, that desperately wants this to be the price. Nearly a grand and a half, right before Xbox's next console is released? Brilliant. I love it.
Naturally, we've reached out to both Microsoft and CD Projekt Red, the makers of Cyberpunk 2077, to have this price checked - and we fully expect them to say, "Ahahaha, no, that is not right." But what if, eh? What if? Maybe this is a bundle that comes with a load of extras, like those themed headphones by Arctis and the Seagate hard drive? Even so, that's a lot of cheddar. We'll update this article when we hear back from the aforementioned parties.
In related Cyberpunk 2077 news, it was recently revealed that players will be able to customise their avatar's junk, which sure is a feature, alright. And surprising precisely nobody, the game is going to be very adults only, with an 18 certificate and all manner of unsavoury goings-on in it. "Intense sexual relations," you say? I mean, we have been on lockdown for a while, now. That's starting to sound attractive, NGL...
Update (21.00, BST): While we're still waiting on official word from Microsoft, we have heard from CD Projekt Red, who've given us the following statement: "Due to a configuration error, a placeholder listing with incorrect pricing for the Xbox One X Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition bundle was published to the Microsoft Store. We're working to resolve this issue, and we look forward to sharing more news about the Xbox One X Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition soon."
