Xbox will aim to release four major first-party games a year from now on

From now on, Xbox is reportedly looking to release “four big games a year” from its first party developers.

Last Sunday’s Xbox Showcase gave us all a glimpse of what’s on the horizon for Xbox, including an in-depth look at Starfield, as well as announcements for new exclusives like Forza Motorsport, Avowed and Fable. However, industry insiders are saying Xbox has more tricks up its sleeve, with plans to release even more exclusives over the years from its first-party developers.

This comes from Stephen Totolio on Twitter, who recently stated the following: “Xbox studios boss Matt Booty says they think they've ‘turned the corner’ on game releases. Hints there are still 2024 games to come that haven't been announced. (Might also have been hinting at 2025; a bit vague). Goal is four big games a year.”

Four big games a year is ambitious, but not out of the question for a company like Xbox, who’ve recently been on a bit of a spending spree with new company acquisitions. Bethesda was a big deal for Xbox, especially with the highly-anticipated Starfield on the way, as well as The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 also likely to be made Xbox exclusives.

Of course there’s also Activision Blizzard, which is currently a deal in progress following pushback from the UK market. Stephen Totolio said Xbox is "committed" to the attempted purchase of Activision Blizzard and has said the company is “trying to get to solutions" from regulators.

The Activision Blizzard deal would be an enormous win for Xbox, as it’d allow them to put big name franchises like Call Of Duty on Xbox Game Pass, as well as create further potential for exclusive games with series like Spyro The Dragon, Crash Bandicoot and Diablo to name a few. It’s believed both parties are considering “all options” to bring the deal to fruition, even if it means removing Activision Blizzard games from the UK market.

After several years trailing behind PlayStation, it seems Xbox finally has the chance to catch up with its own major AAA titles, though it’ll still be facing fierce competition from the PS5 in terms of exclusive games.
