"That is absolutely what we want to go after."

Matt Booty, the head honcho of Xbox Game Studios, has said that Sony's blockbuster exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn are what its developers are aiming for in the future.

While speaking in an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Booty sang the praises of Sony's "fantastic" subsidiaries like Naughty Dog for offering cinematic experiences to their players. "You can't argue with the quality and the craft and the games that they've delivered, that they're working on now and the stuff that we've seen so far, so just kudos and hats off to them," he said.

In an internal document, Microsoft reviewed The Last of Us Part II and found that its impactful narrative and impressive detail are what studios of all stripes "should be aspiring to accomplish with their character dialogue, presentation, and voice acting." However, the rumour that Naughty Dog might be remaking the original game for the PlayStation 5 has divided fans, even with the promise of new-gen features.

Feast your eyes on this fantastic gameplay from Forza Horizon 5, which is set in a map that's one and a half times the size of Great Britain in Forza Horizon 4!

Anyway, it seems that Xbox is conscious that it hasn't brought a title like Uncharted, The Last Of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn or what have you to its customer base. And it's important to address that omission, continued Booty.

"Certainly, it's been a place where we have not been out in front, we haven't really had the sort of one to one with Sony there," he explained. "I don't necessarily want to get into, 'what's our Uncharted? What's our Horizon Zero Dawn? What's our this? What's our that?' I don't think that does anybody any good.

"But you hit on a great point which is, what I take away was, what are those game that have got universal themes, that have got a big world that people want to get lost in, that have really well realised characters and really high production values? That is absolutely what we want to go after."

If you're looking for any sort of specifics in terms of genres or timelines, Booty kept mum on that front. However, he mentioned that the video game industry is growing exponentially with the advent of the new consoles and that Xbox Game Studios would maintain that momentum.
