Xbox Series X Logo Leaks Online, And It's A Major Departure

The logo for Microsoft's upcoming next-gen Xbox console appears to have leaked online, and it's pretty different to what came before. Certainly, there's more of a difference between this supposed Xbox Series X logo and the Xbox One logo than there was between the PS4 and PS5 logos, which are pretty much identical.

Microsoft filed a trademark on April 16th that was swiftly picked up by eagle-eyed fans over on Reddit. As you can see below, the design is a lot sleeker and minimalist than anything we've really seen from Xbox before. The X is clearly inspired by the design of the Xbox One X logo, however there are some noticeable tweaks.

That's pretty much all I've got to say about this. What do you want from me? It's a logo. Just look at it yourself below .

Remember when Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 logo a couple of months back? That was super exciting... until we all realised that it was pretty much exactly the same as the PS4 logo, but with a 5 instead of a 4. Still, the whole point of that underwhelming change is in aid of brand recognition and all that jazz, so whatever works for them.

Assuming this Xbox logo is legit (and I imagine it is) Microsoft will have entirely different reasons for wanting to stand apart from what came before, and I look forward to seeing how that pays off for the company. There are no winners or losers here folks, just two powerful consoles and - I hope - some great games on the way.

Whether this newly surfaced filing means that Microsoft is planning some kind of announcement soon remains to be seen, but I wouldn't bet against it. After all, we know E3 was supposed to take place in just a few short months, and no doubt Microsoft will still want to go ahead and share all the news and reveals it had planned for LA expo.

Now that we've seen the console itself and know all about what's going on under the hood of the machine, all that's left is the software. Hopefully that means a better look at the Xbox Series X in action alongside some of the new games the company has lined up for the next-gen console. I've waited long enough to see Fable 4 and Halo Infinite in all their glory, so let's see what's cooking.
